Limavady Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide (LIPS) was established in 2017 by a group of dedicated volunteers who have the shared experience of losing a loved one through suicide.
Working closely within our local communities our aim is to promote compassionate communities where every life matters by challenging the stigma surrounding suicide and reducing deaths by suicide through providing prevention, intervention and postvention support.
LIPS are currently spearheaded by a committee of seven local individuals who have both lived experience and backgrounds in a range of areas including Health & Social Care, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Counselling, Suicide Prevention & Awareness, Contracts Management, Business Management, Accountancy, Finance and Hospitality.
We also have a team of committed volunteers who are trained in suicide prevention and mental health first aid and who help us on a daily basis with programme design and delivery.
Our staff and committee continually review the services we provide in order to improve outcomes for the individuals, families and communities that we work with. We work in the following ways:
Prevention
Community, youth and workplace training, talks, workshops and awareness campaigns.
Intervention
Listening ear, crisis support, safety planning, signposting, social prescribing and multi-agency partnership working.
Postvention
Support for individuals, families, friends, organisations and communities after the loss of someone through suicide.
